My name is Ren but the posts here will be about me only in relation to (the now defunct) Amazon Slam, the Boston-area all woman poetry slam that I founded in March of 1996 and continued to produce and host for eight and half years. But if you call me a "slam master" I'll have to hurt you. The Amazon Slam was voted "Best Spoken Word" in The Boston Phoenix's "Best Poll" four years in a row 1998-2001. We may very well have won the title the next year too, except the "Spoken Word" category was replaced by a "Sports Bar" one. In 2003 we won "Best Lesbian Night in The Boston Phoenix "Best Poll" as well as a Cambridge Poetry Award in 2003 for "Best Venue". We were featured in Girlfriends a national magazine for queer women in 2002 and were voted "Best Place To Meet A... Lesbian" in Boston magazine in 1999.

All good things come to an end and The Amazon Slam had its last live show in September of 2004. A new live series GirlsnQueers First starts in late July. This journal will be its official blog. Stay tuned.
